About Tokyo Red Lights

Tokyo Red Lights is a small Tokyo nightlife guide team run by Americans who have lived in Japan for more than 12 years. We guide visitors through Kabukicho and publish practical information about the district's streets, prices, etiquette, transport, and common scams.

Why the byline is a team

Our written guides use the byline “Tokyo Red Lights Guide Team.” That is deliberate: the advice is reviewed collectively, while the privacy of guests, staff, and venue contacts stays protected. We do not publish private venue relationships or identify people who have not agreed to appear on the site.

How we publish

We separate observation from facts that can change. Transport schedules, public safety guidance, consumer-protection procedures, and official rules link to primary sources. Prices and policies carry a review date when they can change. We correct material errors instead of quietly changing the page.

What we verify

A useful nightlife guide needs more than atmosphere. Before we publish a changing claim, we look for the source closest to it: the railway operator for station and service information, Tokyo police for safety procedures, national and municipal agencies for rules, and the business itself for its public policies. We link those sources so readers can check the current version without taking our word for it.

Venue recommendations require a higher bar. A venue must have a clear identity and location, publish or clearly explain its charges, and confirm whether it accepts the visitors the listing is written for. We will not turn an old review, a street promoter’s promise, or an anonymous social post into a “verified” listing. When we cannot confirm something, the guide says so.

Corrections and commercial relationships

Tour pages describe services we sell; guide pages are written to remain useful even if a reader never books. If a future article includes a paid placement, hosted visit, affiliate link, or other material relationship, it will be labeled on that page. Businesses cannot pay to remove accurate safety information or to be described as verified without review.
